Our attorney and Chief Operating Officer Hunter Duke is the new President of the Jemicy School Alumni Association. He started at the Owings Mills school in first grade and graduated with the class of 2008. Before taking on the top role, he served on its Alumni Board as Communications and Records Officer.
For Hunter, this one is personal. Jemicy is the school he credits for getting him where he is today.

Jemicy School is a college-preparatory, coed, independent school in Owings Mills, Maryland. It serves bright students in grades 1 through 12 with dyslexia or related language-based learning differences. Founded in 1973, it describes itself as one of the nation’s first day schools for students with dyslexia. Its published profile lists about 445 students across two campuses.
The Jemicy School Alumni Association is the school’s alumni organization. It provides leadership, support, and resources for the benefit of the Jemicy community, and its president leads that work.
Hunter’s Jemicy Story
Hunter arrived at Jemicy in J1, the school’s name for first grade. In his profile on the Jemicy alumni page, he put it plainly: “Without Jemicy, I would not be where I am today. I feel immense gratitude for Jemicy School, and I want to help make it the best it can be for all students, so they may have the same opportunities as me.”
That gratitude has a specific source. In second grade, Hunter was diagnosed with a rare hip disease and used a wheelchair on and off for two years. Jemicy built ramps and moved classes so he could keep attending.
While he recovered from hip surgery, his classmates came to visit in a Jemicy school bus. It is a memory the school’s profile says he cherishes to this day.
From Jemicy to the Courtroom
After Jemicy, Hunter earned a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park. He went on to a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law. Jemicy’s profile notes he passed the bar exam on his first attempt.
He joined WGK Personal Injury Lawyers in August 2019. Today he is Attorney and Chief Operating Officer, and his practice focuses on car accidents and wrongful death cases for injured Marylanders.
His work has been recognized on the Maryland Super Lawyers Rising Stars list. The National Trial Lawyers named him to its Top 40 Under 40 and Top 25 in Auto Accidents.
What the Role Means
The goal Hunter set for himself on the Alumni Board was simple. Every Jemicy student should have the resources and opportunities that let Hunter thrive there. As president, he now leads that effort for the whole alumni community.
A boy who spent two years in and out of a wheelchair grew up to represent people whose lives were upended by an injury. We do not think that is a coincidence. He knows what it is to have your life rearranged by something you did not choose, and that is the perspective he brings to our clients.
