The History of the Dundalk Community in Baltimore, MD

Dundalk is a historic unincorporated community in Maryland and is considered one of the first inner suburbs of Baltimore. It’s home to North Point State Battlefield, the last undeveloped land from the location of the Battle of North Point, a turning point in the War of 1812.

Henry McShane, an Irish immigrant, established the McShane Bell Foundry in Dundalk in 1856 and named the area after his birthplace: Dundalk, Ireland. The foundry has produced bells for churches and buildings worldwide – including the 7,000-pound bell in Baltimore City Hall – and is now located in Missouri.

Bethlehem Steel bought 1,000 acres of land in Dundalk in 1916 to build houses for its shipyard employees. By 1917, the area had over 60 homes, a post office, two stores, and a telephone exchange. The demand for steel significantly increased during World War I and II, bringing more people to the area.

The Dundalk Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and is known for its history and architecture. It represents the federal government’s first attempt at building housing, as the district includes the only two developments built by the US Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation (EFC) during WWI.

Today, many of the neighborhoods in Dundalk are on the water, and some have public marinas. Many parks in the area provide piers, boat ramps, and paddleboarding. There are also restaurants and bars in Dundalk that offer waterfront views and docks.

Damages Available in Personal Injury Cases in Dundalk

If someone else caused your accident, you can file a personal injury claim to seek money to compensate for the full extent of your losses.

You may be able to recover compensation for your economic damages, which covers your financial losses sustained due to the accident. You may also be entitled to non-economic damages for your personal, non-monetary losses.

Your damages may include:

  • Past and future medical expenses
  • Lost wages and diminished earning potential
  • Out-of-pocket costs
  • Pain and suffering
  • Inconvenience
  • Mental anguish
  • Loss of quality of life
  • Physical impairment
  • Disfigurement
  • Loss of consortium
  • And more

Courts rarely award punitive damages. However, these exemplary damages are awarded if the defendant acted with actual malice, meaning an evil purpose or motive. This is a high standard and must be proven by clear and convincing evidence. Punitive damages serve to punish the defendant and deter others from engaging in similar conduct in the future.

What Does It Cost to Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer in Baltimore County?

What Does It Cost to Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer in Baltimore County?

Most Baltimore County personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. Under this arrangement, you don’t owe any upfront fees, and you don’t have to pay the attorney unless they win your case.

If the attorney doesn’t recover any compensation for you, you typically owe them nothing. If your lawyer secures a favorable settlement or verdict in your case, they’ll receive a portion of your financial award.

During your free initial case evaluation, we’ll review our contingency fee agreement with you and answer any questions you may have.

Statute of Limitations in Maryland Personal Injury Cases

Statute of Limitations in Maryland Personal Injury Cases

Maryland accident victims don’t have much time to file a personal injury lawsuit. You must file your lawsuit within three years of the accident date, or you’ll forfeit your right to hold the at-fault party responsible for your injuries. If you lost a loved one, you have three years from their date of death to file a wrongful death claim.

If a health care provider caused your injury, you have five years from your injury date or three years from the date you discovered the injury.

Exceptions may apply, so it’s essential to speak with an attorney as soon as possible to ensure you don’t miss the deadline.
