The History of Essex, Maryland

Essex is a census-designated, unincorporated community in Baltimore County, Maryland. Its current population is just under 40,000.

The community of Essex has a rich history dating back to the year 1909. The Taylor Land Company initially established the area as a place for the residents of Baltimore, appealing to those who desired a more rural lifestyle. As the community grew in population, it became clear that Essex needed to expand. The first elementary school in Essex opened in 1925, and a fire station was opened just four years before that, in 1921.

The Glenn L. Martin Company would go on to play a major role in the further development of Essex around the time of WWII. The company employed over 50,000 at the time of the war, but afterward, industry in the area stalled to a halt. That led the company to hand over its land to the State of Maryland. Essex would continue to grow into the substantial community it is today.

Essex remains an area with a strong historical presence. Landmarks include the Ballestone Manor, The Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum, Cox’s Point Park, and Rocky Point Park and Beach.

Car Accidents

Car Accidents

Car accidents occur far too often in the United States, and Essex is no exception. Sometimes, a car accident results in just property damage, but in other instances, a car crash can be devastating. Our Essex personal injury attorneys can help you obtain compensation for repair costs, medical expenses, and much more.

Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle Accidents

With its proximity to the coast, Essex can be a relatively popular place to ride a motorcycle. Motorcycle accidents tend to heavily impact the rider involved, as motorcycles offer much less protection than many other motor vehicles. We can help your case for compensation every step of the way; reach out for a free consultation.

Truck Accidents

Truck Accidents

Trucks are critical to many aspects of modern-day society: commerce, transportation, and infrastructure, just to name a few. Accidents involving these vehicles tend to be especially serious since these vehicles are so large and powerful. Truck accident cases are also relatively complex because at least one insurance company and a trucking company will likely be involved.

Wrongful Death

Wrongful Death

The death of a loved one is never easy to endure, but it’s even tougher when the death doesn’t need to occur. No amount of money could ever make up for the loss of your family member, but a wrongful death lawsuit can help with a sense of justice. Our lawyers can help in that regard.

Damages Available in Personal Injury Cases in Essex

Damages Available in Personal Injury Cases in Essex

Three forms of compensation are available in Essex personal injury cases. These are known as economic damages, non-economic damages, and punitive damages.

The financial losses you’ve incurred due to your personal injury are referred to as economic damages. You can claim compensation for things like lost wages, lost earning capacity, medical bills, and out-of-pocket expenses.

Non-economic damages aren’t so easy to assign a dollar value to. Examples include emotional distress, disfigurement, decrease in enjoyment of life, and pain and suffering.

Punitive damages are only awarded in rare personal injury cases where the defendant’s conduct was relatively egregious. These damages deter society from engaging in similar behavior to the defendant’s, and they also serve to punish the at-fault party for their actions.

What Does It Cost To Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer in Baltimore County?

What Does It Cost To Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer in Baltimore County?

William G. Kolodner Personal Injury Lawyers operates on a contingency fee basis. Hiring our Essex personal injury attorneys won’t cost you anything upfront. Instead, we will receive payment as a percentage of the financial award we obtain for you. This means the more money you make, the more money we make, which incentivizes us to maximize your compensation.

We will discuss and agree on the percentage ahead of time, but it will usually be around 33%. To illustrate, if we obtain a $1 million award for you and we agree to a 35% contingency fee, we would take $350,000 as our payment for our legal services.

Contact us today with any questions you might have regarding the contingency fee payment system. We can give you more personalized insight during your free consultation.

Statute of Limitations in Maryland Personal Injury Cases

Statute of Limitations in Maryland Personal Injury Cases

For most personal injury cases in Essex, you’ll have three years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit. If you file your lawsuit after this statute of limitations deadline passes, your case will not be heard by a court of law.

There are exceptions to this general three-year time limit, such as in medical malpractice cases where you do not discover your injury until long after the fact. In such a case, you could have additional time to file suit.

We recommend reaching out to us as quickly as you can if you are not sure whether the statute of limitations has yet to pass for your situation. This is a determination we can likely make during your completely free initial consultation.
